* God Speaks to those who take time to Listen * Heaven's Angels are smiling...on so many good souls at St. Michael's! Our entire Parish is prayerfully indebted to the many volunteers who have time and energy to beautify our Cathedral Church and Chapel for the Christmas Season. You good work decorating the House of the Lord for the Feast of His Nativity are profoundly appreciated! One thing is certain: here at St. Michael's we take into serious account the beauty and spotless majesty of Our Lord's Dwelling Place! Our most special thanks are extended to the many, many mail-in gifts which were sent to our Parish. We are grateful to each and every Parishioner and Friend of St. Michael's, and also to our Parish Organizations for their sacrificial gifts which were presented during the Christmas season. We pray that Our Lord Jesus Christ continue to sustain is us the grateful awareness of the Gift of Faith we each have received! Prior to and a little after Christmas our combined Offertory amounted to over $1.00. Prayers for the Dead - Hramoty Our Eastern Christian faith takes death frankly and openly into account. Our Church calendar provides many occasions when we are asked to face up to the fact of death. Easter is one such occasion. Sunday is another. Every Sunday is a "little Easter" on our Church calendar celebrating Christ's victory over death. On our church calendar every year there are special Memorial Saturdays or "Saturdays for the Souls" which provide another opportunity for us to face up to death. On these Saturdays the Divine Liturgy is celebrated and special prayers are offered for our deceased loved ones. We pray for the dead especially on Saturdays since it was on the Sabbath day that Christ lay dead in the tomb, "resting from all His works." Thus, in the New Testament, Saturday becomes the proper day for remembering the dead and offering prayers for them. According to our Byzantine liturgical calendar for 2008, the All Souls Liturgies and commemorations, at 9:00 am, fall on these following dates: January 26 th, February 16 th, February 23, March 1 St. and May 10 th, 2008. You may list all the names of your beloved deceased on the card, include it in the "All Souls" envelope (provided in your box of Church envelopes) and return the same in our Offertory basket. And, be sure to attend the Divine Liturgies on the All Souls Days. The Rites of Christian Burial Funeral Services were held in our Cathedral Church for + Anna Adamoyurka (January 3 rd) and + Mary Pasterchick (January 10 th). Buried in Christ in Christian Baptism, they are now raised with Christ in glory through faith. Prayers of Condolences and support are offered to their Families. May Our Lord Jesus Christ grant to His Servants, Anna and Mary, Eternal Rest where the light of His face watches over them. Religious Education Classes The God-given children of St. Michael's deserve our one hour of Christian formation. Parents: Please faithfully bring your child to Eastern Christian Formation classes each Sunday morning at Chapel. Your Precious and Faithful Help Requested In order to properly record you sacrificial gifts which you place in St. Michael's weekly Offertory, please be sure to check or indicate by number the amount on the envelope. |
