Today, the first Sunday after Pentecost is dedicated to the memory of all saints and martyrs - known and unknown - throughout history. Called the Sunday of All Saints, it shows that there is a direct connection between last Sunday - Pentecost - and today, All Saints Day. One of the purposes of the coming of the Holy SPirit on Pentecost was to produce saints.

God's Holy People

"Holy Gifts to God's holy people" is proclaimed by the priest celebrant in our Byzantine Liturgy during the elevation of the Holy Gifts before the distribution of communion. The faithful are fed by Christ's holy body and blood to grow in the communion of the Holy SPirit and to communicate it to the world.

("Catechism of the Catholic Church," #948)

Johnny's mother looked out the window and noticed him "playing church" with their three kittens. He had the kittens sitting in a row, and he has preaching to them. She smiled and went about her work. A while later she heard loud meowing and hissing and ran back to the open window to see Johnny baptizing the kittens in a tub of water. She called out, "Johnny, stop that! Those kittens are afraid of water!" Johnny looked up at her and said, "They should have thought about that before they joined my church."
