Today, the first Sunday after Pentecost is dedicated to the memory of all saints and martyrs - known and unknown - throughout history. Called the Sunday of All Saints, it shows that there is a direct connection between last Sunday - Pentecost - and today, All Saints Day. One of the purposes of the coming of the Holy SPirit on Pentecost was to produce saints. God's Holy People "Holy Gifts to God's holy people" is proclaimed by the priest celebrant in our Byzantine Liturgy during the elevation of the Holy Gifts before the distribution of communion. The faithful are fed by Christ's holy body and blood to grow in the communion of the Holy SPirit and to communicate it to the world. ("Catechism of the Catholic Church," #948)
